Lily sat beside Sawyer and uncomfortably placed her hands into her lap, not sure what was about to come. “I-is there something you wish to ask?”

Sawyer sighed once more. “I promised Anti-” he stopped himself, and started again. “I promised Scabior I would help take care of his family. All of his family. All I’m asking… is if you’re all right, Lily.”

Lily picked up on Sawyer’s correction, but she knew deep down there was never a way in which she could call Scabior anything besides Antioch. After all the anger that had been afflicted upon her by Sebastian, Antioch was the only name she could refer to him as.

She thought for a moment, wanting to say so much, but she knew better than to do so. “It’ll take a bit of time,” she said gently. “Certain things need time.”

Sawyer nodded, a soft, comforting smile spreading across his face. “I understand,” he muttered. “Some things do need time. And I don’t mean to poke into your secrets. If you ever do need to talk about anything, though, you can talk to me. I’ll help in any way I can.” He gave her a friendly nod, though he was still conscious of the fact that she was still hurting.

Lily shook her head, knowing Sawyer’s intentions were pure. “No, sweetheart. You’re not poking,” she whispered. “Please I’d like you to grow familiar with me.”

Sawyer cocked his head, but nodded slowly. “What kinds of things need time?” He wondered to himself if it was Scabior’s death, or perhaps something else. His voice was soft.

“Oh,” she stuttered, a bit taken a back. “Anything perhaps.” As her thoughts began to trail a sigh escaped her lips. “The death of anyone you hold dear can take time.”

Slowly, Sawyer sighed and nodded. “Yeah… I know,” he muttered, tracing patterns on the table. Even before Scabior, he knew that kind of pain. Sure, he had kept to the Snatcher code. Leave it all behind. But now… it was different. It was so much different. If they lost anyone, they were put at a weakness. Little details were crucial. Nothing could be left behind or forgotten- or they would be caught.

“I know what it’s like to lose a part of your family.” He smiled sadly- he had lost more than a part. “I’m… I’m sorry.”

At his gentle words, Lily felt a harsh pang run through her stuttering heart. Sawyer wanted to know of her past, but there was a part of her that didn’t wish to recollect what she had tried so desperately to forget. “I imagine Antioch never told you who the parents of three of my children are.” She knew as soon as her eldest child’s name was said a part of Sawyer would perhaps grow angry. “My eldest son is Harry Potter. His father was murdered in order to keep us safe … the only one who was able to make it through the night was Harry.” Her voice began to trail before she could continue on with a story she had told so many times before. “The story of my return is rather complex and I’m sure it isn’t a story in which you’d like to hear, but I will express that James was not the last husband that I lost … nor was he the only one who died for another soul he cared for.”

Sawyer listened intently to her words. The name Harry Potter hit him, but he didn’t care so much as some. He hadn’t been in the Snatchers to Snatch. Even if he had come across Harry he would’ve let him go, like he did most that he found himself. The only reason he might’ve had a grudge against Harry was the fact that his return to Hogwarts sparked the battle… and cost lives. He knew it was all in different interests, and bit back his rather harsh emotions, not wanting to upset her further.

Slowly, he nodded. “I see… I think,” he whispered. “I’m so sorry… will you tell me what happened?”

My partner and I decided to mess with an antagonist of the main couple. We shipped them so hard we started an AU and ended up focusing the original more on them than the original pair.

Sawyer shrugged lightly. “He did speak of you often,” he replied, taking a seat. He knew it might be a sensitive topic, but sighed. “Something tells me, had things gone according to plan, this would be one of the first places he had come to… You all were a good family to him.”

A light smile formed onto Lily’s face before it became rather fixed and she lowered her head. Her body was still turned from him, but she figured he knew she was hurting over his words when soft sniffles came from her direction.

“Thank you,” she whispered, trying her best to stand a solid composure. “He was good to us as well.”

“I… I’m sorry,” he stuttered, noticing that he had made her cry- again. “I didn’t mean to make you sad… I’m sorry.”  He stood at once and walked over to her, resting his hand on her shoulder. “I only meant it as… you were good for him. You made him happy. I meant it as a compliment, I didn’t want to make you cry.”

Lily shook off her emotions almost immediately and turned her body to face him. “No, I understand,” she said softly. “I had just remembered a few things from the past.”

She allowed another light smile to cross her face before carefully placing her hand over his. “It’ll be okay.”

Sawyer nodded, not really noticing her hand over his. Gently, he decided to press a bit. “If you’re willing to… I know we don’t know each other very well, but I’d listen to whatever you needed to say. Are you sure you’re okay, Lily?”

Lily nodded before gently releasing both his hand and her own. “I haven’t much to say, but perhaps we should take a seat?” Her words were calm, comforting, and she hoped that with time, they would help Sawyer to fully understand that she held no threat.

Sawyer nodded, releasing her shoulder and taking a seat. “Don’t feel pressured to say anythin’, hun,” he said softly. “I aim only to help, and to understand. Just let me know if I ever push too far.” He sighed and drummed his fingers on the table once.
